Some people seem to think it’s a taboo to quit your job, that it’s cowardly or perhaps your just too lazy to stick it out but in fact I think it’s quite the opposite.
If your not satisfied with your current career path who says you can’t divert to another, after all staying in a job you know isn’t likely to go anywhere could be even more damaging for your future and especially for your growth.
Now before you go handing in your resignation letter I’m not saying that you need to be hasty and jump the gun. Especially if the reason your not happy with your current role is something that can could be fixed, for instance if you set a meeting to discuss that pay bump you’ve deserve this year or asked your boss to work less overtime because it’s cutting into time with your family.
We don’t all get lucky landing the job of our dreams or necessarily something we’re deeply passionate about but your career should have an attribute of balance of the elements you need to keep you motivated and keep you on the ladder to success.
So what are some of the signs it may be time to throw in the towel? You should ask yourself some simple questions like is your job fulfilling and do you enjoy what you do? Is the product or service your selling something you actually believe in? Are you going anywhere, or are you in a position that’s not likely to change no matter how hard you work or long you’ve dedicated yourself to the company?
These in my opinion are all valid questions you should ask yourself on a regular basis and if you don’t like the answer then you know what to do make a change! That being said people can tend to confuse feelings of unfulfillment with sheer boredom or exhaustion because your being overworked so it’s important to make an informed decision before acting.
I saw this great video today by Suzy Welch titled 4 signs you should quit your job immediately, and it instantly had me thinking. So I’m curious to know what your thoughts are, better to stick it out or go when the going gets tough? Anatole
