If I Only Knew Then, What I’d Tell My 20 Year Old Self

two men are studying

Time is a virtue, and it may sound like a clique to say it but age really does provide you with wisdom and a life full of hard learn lessons that help you to become the person you are today.

But what if it we’re possible to go back in time to when you we’re just starting out, fresh faced to the world of business what would you change? What advice would you tell your 20 year old self if you could do it all over again?

Well to start with I’d say there’s no rush! In today’s society we look at the exceptions among us the young Mark Zuckerbergs and Steve Jobs of the world that achieved so much in their early 20s and we can’t help to feel like we’re falling behind, but it’s not a race. Nobody’s saying you can’t be the next Bill Gates, but these things don’t happen over night and trust me even if you do come up with a truly revolutionary idea it doesn’t mean things are just going to be handed to you. In fact it breeds competition, and you may have to work twice as hard to become the industry leader you strive to be, but the important thing here is to take your time to fully develop your ideas and do it right.

In relation to my last point Id say another great thing to do is go beyond what is expected of you. Just because you might be 20 doesn’t mean you have to act like it, it may sound like another clique but age really is just a number.

I’ve seen it time and time again younger people being quickly promoted or even ending up in higher senior level positions than others almost twice their age. Why? Because they don’t hold back, they’re not afraid to think outside of the box, to innovate or do the unexpected. It is the courage and conviction to act this way in business that can really set you apart from the crowd, so don’t be afraid to speak up and have your voice heard even if your the new guy on the block because though that other people in the room may have years of experience over you, doesn’t mean they can necessarily mean their ideas or opinions are better than yours.

Looking back these are just a couple of the things I would tell my younger self if I had the chance, and the more I think about it the list goes on. I read a great article by Shane Rodgers where he shared quite a few of his, tips and tricks that definitely had me thinking. Here’s the article bellow:

So tell me people if you had the chance to give your past self any piece of advice for the future what would it be? Anatole
